Personal Support Workers
Personal Support Workers (PSW’s) are what are referred to as unregulated health care providers. The duties of a PSW include managing daily tasks for people who are suffering from illness, injury or dealing with the effects of aging. This also includes delivering meals to patients, turning and ambulating patients and providing plenty of fresh water, as well as extra nourishment between meals. They also help the patients with personal hygiene, provide them with bedpans and help them with bathing. They assist the nurses and other staff as needed and adhere to professional standards, follow policies and procedures and abide by federal, state and local requirements, as well as Joint Commission standards.
